Proposed Projects

In conjunction with the CPCIP, the Delaware County Planning Department applied for a Municipal Assistance Program (MAP) grant to fund a proposed Corridor Master Plan. The grant award, through the PA Department of Community & Economic Development, was approved and helped to fund the project.

The Delaware County Planning Department prepared the multi-municipal Corridor Master Plan for the Boroughs of Sharon Hill, Glenolden, Norwood, Prospect Park and Ridley Park, dedicated to the revitalization of the Chester Pike Corridor. The plan identifies a corridor-wide vision, goals and objectives, and as well as the acknowledges the unique character of each borough's segment. The plan includes an inventory, map and analysis of the physical condition, capacity, levels of service, safety and other transportation network metrics of the corridor, as well as identify and delineate needed improvement projects.

The Delaware County Transportation Management Association (DCTMA), partnering with the CPCIP, were awarded a Transportation and Community Development Initiative (TCDI) study grant in June 2022 for $125,000 at 100% reimbursement for Chester Pike Multi-Modal Improvement Study, spanning Ridley Park to Sharon Hill.   

Bergmann was selected as the engineering consultant for this study, which will provide an inventory of existing conditions to include, but not limited to signalized and unsignalized intersections, lane configurations, land uses, parking, accident data, public transportation access, pedestrian accessibility, biking and other modes of transportation in the study area. The study is anticipated to be concluded in June 2024.

The CPCIP received a $50,000 Keystone Communities Program Legislative Initiatives grant in December 2021 from Senator Tim Kearney to help fund the streetscaping project. The grant is administered through the PA Department of Community & Economic Development.  Additionally, the CPCIP received a $2,400 grant in December 2021 from The Community's Foundation to fund three welcome signs / flower boxes and a $20,000 grant in January 2022 from Aqua, an Essential Utilities Company, for the streetscaping project. Pending additional funding, the proposed streetscaping improvements include the installation of street name signs and decorative posts, pedestrian benches and ADA resting stops at key locations including bus stops, open space area and senior housing, trash receptacles and landscaping along the Chester Pike Corridor for the Boroughs of Sharon Hill, Glenolden, Norwood, Prospect Park and Ridley Park. 

In addition to enhancing the communities' aesthetics, streetscaping provides traffic calming, improved pedestrian safety, circulation and comfort, plus will stimulate economic development. Economic development is especially important at this time, given the direct financial impact COVID-19 has had on the boroughs' budgets.
